Barta and Ferentz are done, audible sigh from one of them as they leave the front.
Barta: Just sharing with everyone what we're doing, want to make sure $70,000 we spend a year is helping.
KF: Require players to live on campus one year, experience is that's been fairly healthy.
Barta: We didn't catch anyone (in recent drug tests), we have enough information to think that we need to tighten down what we're doing. We can't estimate that there was one or more than one, but we suspect that there was at least one, then you have everything in question unless we tighten everything down, go through protocols, make sure it doesn't happen going forward.
KF: Addressed DJK incident at team meeting Thursday. Adam Robinson's a good guy, just not been taking care of business the way I expect him to. Refering to being held out at beginning of Ohio State game for "academic indigestion."
KF: Team practiced 4 times over the weekend, players very positive.
Barta: Very pleased with decision to hire Chigozie Ejiasi, look forward to working with him in the future.
KF: The thing about Iowa is, fanbase is the best, media coverage extensive, for players all you have to do is be on the team and you're a celebrity.
Barta: No fun to stand up here and talk about challenge we're dealing with. Many student athletes who are doing things the right way.
KF: 25 seniors have done a great job academically, on the football field. Not going to win 11 games every year, part of the landscape. The media attention, program in a negative light, never a good thing, but not a lot of focus on good things typically, a lot of good things have happened this year. A lot of good young people on the team right now.
KF: DJK and Jewel Hampton, not divisive figures on the team, to my knowledge. Jewel's been pretty much out of the equation for 6-7-8 weeks.
KF: It's my experience that when you win 10-11 games, things go pretty smoothly. But to think that you don't have someone skipping class, or someone breaking curfew, things like that, that's pretty idealistic thinking.
KF: We don't do background checks on roommates, girlfriends, wide circle of friends. (on not knowing DJK was living with someone allegedly dealing drugs)
Barta: There are multiple ways people try to get around providing a good sample, not going to talk about specifics, enough evidence in our protocol that we need to tighten up, someone can get around testing process.
KF: Anticipate that ARob will be back next year.
Barta: State of the program: communicate with Kirk regularly, whenever there's an issue, KF deals with them professionally. Have had conversations on each incident, program is in great hahds, dealing with issues, but great confidence in Kirk.
Barta: If someone refuses to take a test, it becomes a de facto positive.
Barta: There have been drug tests since DJK's arrest last week, but nothing out of the ordinary. We drug test athletes every week.
It was a mutual decision for Hampton to leave.
KF anticipates everyone on roster ready to go against Mizzou.
Kirk: Not a huge fan of the social networks.
No more athletes to add to the list today.
Athletics works with Sam Cochran on counseling. In the process of hiring to replace the late Marvin Sims.
In the event of a positive test - engage athlete in counseling, go through student athlete code of conduct.
Goals- education, curb bad behavior, poor decision making.
Third level - Began in 1988 - Iowa's internal drug testing. Spend $70,000/yr. to manage that program.
Second level of testing through Big Ten Conference.
Barta talking about NCAA testing procedures now.
Barta up next.
92 football athletes tested this fall.
On DJK - What happened was "Disappointing to all of us."
Players come with all kinds of backgrounds.
