Three weeks ago, Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista was in Israel. Before that, Spain. And before that, New York City, his hometown for the past 28 years.
But over the past two weeks, Baptista and his percussion ensemble, Beat the Donkey, traveled to comparatively tiny towns, and what better place than Iowa do to so? The ensemble hit Marshalltown, Perry, and Spencer as part of the UI's musical outreach program, Spot Kids, Hancher's family arts adventure, before coming to Iowa City a show May 11 at 2 p.m.
