While momentum continues to build within the program behind a strong season, one might question the club's overall motivation.

After all, why would anybody want to wake up at dawn, slide his way across campus during this never-ending winter, climb four flights of stairs, only to endure a demanding workout?

"I lost 50 pounds," said four-year veteran member Alex Cosmas. "No matter what your background is, this club will definitely turn you into a superior athlete."

A first-year member, Austin Sorensen, said his 35-pound loss has limited the daily options in his closet.

"I have to buy new clothes all the time because they don't fit," he said.

The club club's spring competition commences with the Cy-Hawk event, which will take place on Lake Macbride. Tentatively scheduled for April 5, the club will host the event for the first time in more than a decade. This year, however, the club plans to invite not only Iowa State University but also Augustana College and the University of Illinois clubs.
