Pelton agreed that high faculty productivity means added benefits for students. The health-promotion track is selective, and Pelton said that high-quality teachers attract above-average students.
"All of my honors students work on research with me, as well as all my graduate students," Janz said. "I can facilitate it because I have a lab and the funds."
Having someone who can teach students in a smaller setting and who knows their strengths is invaluable to those students, she said.
Other departments in the top 10 included the anatomy, environmental health science, and accounting.
The UI as a whole also cracked the top 50 for research institutions across the nation.
