"Its about mice in a backyard. Sometimes they ride rabbits. It looks pretty cool," he said.
Meyer's interest in movies is shared with his staff.
"Everybody on the staff has that encyclopedic movie knowledge, and I think the customers really like that," said Meyer.
A customer walks in. She's looking for a movie called Priscilla and an Italian-language film. Meyer checks the computer. Both are in stock.
"We've got lot of customers who are really into a lot of things," Meyer said. "We've got a lot of people who really love us because we've got a great foreign-language section, and then there's a whole other batch of customers who love us because we've got a great kung-fu section. What I love is those are both great customers to have."
But for Meyer, experience with cinema isn't just trivia. He's worked at video stores and theaters for almost 12 years and been with That's Rentertainment through four different incarnations, beginning at a location in Coralville and finally arriving at the current location at 211 N. Linn St.
During that time Meyer has also made a number of moves, beginning as an employee for That's Rentertainment, going on to become a manager and finally the owner of his own store. He also spent three years at the UI, majoring in business but never completed his degree.
"I've ran a lot of businesses," Meyer said. "But I hated being a business major."
Since taking the reins, he has put both his experience with business and his fondness for the store to the test, sometimes working more than 70 hours a week at the place he's come to call a second home, occasionally doing so without pay.
But despite the ups and downs, he stresses he still enjoys running the store.
"Basically I love being there," Meyer said. "I wake up in the morning, and I look forward to going to work. You know, that's what everybody wants, and I've got it."

That's Rentertainment is a terrific store! We should all support it because it has a great selection of titles and also because it is a local store with real employees who care about movies and customers and listen to those of us who have suggestions for purchases. (Continued…)
