For the second time in two weeks, anonymous e-mail bomb threats were sent to the UI, relations director Steve Parrott said.
The bomb threats were issued to three UI-connected people this weekend, and targeted Jessup Hall and another unnamed building, Parrott said.

Iowa City police are modifying patrols slightly in response to another reported attack against a woman this past weekend, Iowa City police Sgt. Troy Kelsay said, adding that officers still have many other duties to attend to with students returning to campus.
"It makes it more difficult to dedicate time to these special assignments," he said. "You can't ignore the rest of the city."

Approximately 160 incoming freshmen will spend their first days at the UI in temporary housing, but a planned addition to Burge Residence Hall could eventually help ease the situation.
The housing shortage - which has routinely had more than 100 students without permanent room assignments at the beginning of the semester since 2002 - has remained constant over the past three years.

Even with the statewide keg-registration policy, local beer vendors say their keg sales haven't declined, and some have reported an increase in sales.
Beginning July 1, kegs purchased in Iowa must be registered at the retailer where they are purchased. Vendors record the buyer's name, address, and drivers' license number and pair it with the identification number stickered to the keg.

Security officials at the UI may want to brush up on their texting lingo - not for checking weekend plans but for tipping off the university community about a bomb threat.
UI officials are poised to begin alerting the university community about emergency situations through text messages and voice mails, pushing aside a lethargic e-mail notification system that can take up to two hours to inform students and faculty in such situations.
