As the nursing crisis continues in Iowa, Gov. Chet Culver will sign a bill that sets aside $5.2 million specifically for nurses' wages.

But that amount is far less the $150 million required to bring Iowa's nursing pay up to the national average, said Linda Goeldner, the executive director of the Iowa Nurses Association. (1) comment

Besides disgruntled smokers and bar owners - and beyond supposedly clearer lungs for patrons and employees - it seems there could be another side effect of Iowa's recently passed smoking ban: lower youth smoking rates.
