Beating Michigan and French silk
Q&A with Megan Schipper

DI: How exciting was it to beat the 11th-ranked team in the country?
Schipper: It was absolutely insane. We had everybody playing so hard all night. Michigan is a really good team, and we were really excited to play the Wolverines. It was a fun match.
DI: What was going through your head during the final point?
Schipper: I was just thinking, "It's our time." We've lost two or three really close matches in the fifth game, and I was just thinking, "It's gotta be our time; we've gotta pull this out."
DI: How sad was it to see your high-school and college teammate, Becky Walters, go down with another injury, and how have her spirits been?
Schipper: I'm actually her roommate, too, but the whole team has been helping her and giving her support. She has been really positive and upbeat, and that has helped us out. We have all been rooting for her, and she will be ready next year better than ever.
DI: Who do you hang out with from the team and what do you like to do during your free time?
Schipper: Christina [Meister] lives down the hallway from me, and we have lots of classes together, but really everyone on the team hangs out a lot. We are a very close team. We have "Grey's Anatomy" parties every Thursday, but we also have little study parties and things like that … ["Grey's"] got really weird, but it still keeps my interest.
DI: Do you ever wish there was a volleyball video game where you could play as yourself, as the football and basketball players do?
Schipper: That would be amazing - I would play that all the time.
DI: What are you a bigger fan of - Wilson or Spalding volleyballs?
Schipper: Spalding, but I have no idea why.
DI: So you weren't sad when Wilson floated away in the movie Cast Away?
Schipper: [Laugh]. I haven't seen that movie in so long. I do remember Tom Hanks had to take his tooth out with ice skates, though.
DI: If you were a dessert, which would you be?
Schipper: I think I would probably be French silk pie. I absolutely love that.
DI: And now for the most obvious and most important question. Who is your favorite Ninja Turtle?
Schipper: Oh my god, I don't know the Ninja Turtles. Oh wait, I like Raphael, but I don't even know why. I was a big fan of Power Rangers; I watched them all the time when I was little … I also didn't own any Barbies, I owned Hot Wheels cars.
