V-ballers shine in Colorado

The Hawkeye volleyball team (4-1, 0-0) put together a strong offensive attack en route to a share of the Northern Colorado Tournament championship this past weekend.
One week after managing a 1-1 record in the season-opening Hawkeye Challenge, Iowa earned a share of the crown, tying Florida Golf Coast with a 3-0 record.
Iowa downed California-Riverside 3-1, St. Francis 3-0, and host Northern Colorado 3-1, with four Hawkeyes notching career-highs in kills against Riverside.
The Hawkeyes highlighted a balanced and accurate attack by thumping the leather at a .348 team hitting percentage in its match against Northern Colorado. Junior Laura Kremer and sophomore Megan Schipper led the squad with 37 and 35 kills overall respectively, with Kremer sporting a .722 attacking percentage against St. Francis, including a six for six effort in game two. Both ladies were named to the all-tournament team.
The Hawkeyes will drive to Des Moines for the Drake Classic this coming weekend, starting with Drake at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by Iowa State and LSU on Saturday.
