UI club scene a raving success

The UI campus is busting at its seams with the more than 600 student groups.
Big Brothers Big Sisters at Iowa
Unlike its counterpart Big Brothers Big Sisters, Big Brothers Big Sisters at Iowa does not match up its members with a local child buddy. This student organization focuses specifically on planning and hosting activities for the Big Brothers Big Sisters matches, activities coordinator Caitlin O’Connor said.
O’Connor, a UI student, said the organization meets twice a month to plan events for the bigs and littles.
“This year we had a Halloween party, a holiday party, and a pool party,” she said. “The parties include games, crafts, and food.”
Volunteers participate in the planning and preparing process, in addition to attending events and getting involved with the kids.
Medicus
Medicus is the perfect student organization for you if you’re interested in the medical field. The goal of the organization is to inform pre-medical students on current issues and provide them with opportunities for firsthand experience in the profession.
“Different doctors come to our meetings and give us insight on current medical issues,” Medicus member Tiffany Aossey said. “There’s also a panel of medical students who give us really helpful information about preparing and applying for medical school.”
The organization usually meets twice a month, she said.
UI Skydiving Club
Are you someone who loves a thrill? Then the UI has the club for you.
The UI Skydiving Club focuses on educating students about skydiving, as well as training them for their first jumps. The club, which has approximately 100 members, usually meets twice a month, the club’s president and UI student Cole Chapman said.
“During the fall and spring seasons, we go out and dive every weekend,” Chapman said. “There’s a collegiate national sky diving competition that we are hoping to compete in.”
