Council to vote on City Hall renovation

The Iowa City City Council will vote on a resolution to award a contract to renovate City Hall on April 21.

Bids for the project opened on Thursday. City staff will review the bids and make a recommendation for the contract prior to the City Council’s meeting.

The project is estimated to cost $817,017 and will be funded by general obligation bond proceeds.

Council to consider replacement chemical storage building

The City Council on April 21 will consider a resolution approving plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimated cost for the construction of a replacement chemical storage building for the Iowa City Landfill.

The project will include removing the existing landfill hazardous chemical waste storage building and replacing it with a new one. The estimated cost of the project is $100,000 and will be funded with landfill revenues.

Council to consider street reconstruction

The City Council will consider a resolution approving plans, form of contract, and cost estimate for the East Harrison Street reconstruction project.

The improvements will include new roadway, sidewalks, storm sewer, water main, and other associated improvements.

The project is estimated to cost $450,000 and will be funded through general obligation bond proceeds.

Council to vote on food-truck ordinance

The City Council will be considering whether to pass an ordinance to establish provisions for food-truck vending on city streets.

Food trucks with city-issued permits would be allowed to vend in public parking stalls on city streets. Food trucks would not be allowed to vend downtown, as defined in the ordinance, within 150 feet of a restaurant, or in any residential zones.

Food trucks would also be blocked from being within 150 feet of a food operation in a University of Iowa building or any area adjacent to the Pentacrest by request of the UI.

Council to consider parking garage maintenance

The City Council will consider a resolution on setting a public hearing on plans, specifications, form of contract, and estimate of cost for the Iowa City parking garage maintenance program for 2015.

The project will focus on concrete floor repairs, and other maintenance issues in the Dubuque Street, Capitol Street, Chauncey Swann, and Tower Place parking ramps. The estimated cost is $402,000 and will be funded with parking revenue proceeds.
