Authorities have accused an Iowa City man of attacking a woman.

Luke Goddard, 26, was charged Oct. 6 with domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood flow.

According to online court documents, the woman awoke Goddard to inform him that he was late for work.

Goddard allegedly became angry, pushed the woman down onto the couch, and began to suffocate her with a pillow.

The woman reported that she couldn’t breathe and had to break the glass of the locked back door in order to escape. She suffered severe lacerations on her arm.

Goddard and the woman have been in an intimate relationship for four years and have a child together.

Domestic abuse/assault impeding air/blood flow is a Class-D felony.
