Davis, Scherff honored by Sporting News

The honors keep coming for Brandon Scherff and Carl Davis. The Sporting News announced Wednesday that the pair has been named to its first-team All-Big Ten list.

The announcement marks the second time this week the duo has been named to an All-Big Ten list. Scherff garnered preseason first-team All-Big Ten honors from Athlon Sports, and Davis was named to the same list.

Women’s swimming schedule announced

After the men’s swimming and diving squad released its schedule Tuesday, the women’s team did the same Wednesday. Iowa will open the season at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Irvine, California, on Aug. 6.

The Hawkeyes’ Big Ten schedule begins on Oct. 3 in Iowa City with a meet with Michigan and Nebraska.

Iowa will host the Hawkeye Invitational from Dec. 5-7 and will host Iowa State in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series on Dec. 12

The Big Ten meet is set for Feb. 18-21, 2015, in Columbus, Ohio.

Iowa will also host the 2015 NCAA meet March 19-21, 2015.

Hull to compete nationally

Gabe Hull will compete in the U.S. Track and Field Outdoor Championships on Friday.

The junior will compete in the discus. He holds the Iowa school record with a throw of 207-1 and finished 11th at the NCAA meet in June. Hull is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. Friday.

Iowa softball opponents announced

The Iowa softball team announced its Big Ten schedule Wednesday. Five of the Hawkeyes’ opponents played in the 2014 postseason. Week-by-week, Iowa will take on Maryland, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, Northwestern. Iowa will also host a midweek clash with Nebraska between Weeks 5 and 6.

Dates and times have not been announced.

Cafone, Pfeiffer named to United States national team

Following the U.S. Women’s Field Hockey National Championships, Iowa junior Natalie Cafone and former Hawkeye Lauren Pfeiffer were selected to the U.S. National Team.

The Hawkeyes are two of 30 members on the team, which also features 11 Olympians.

Team USA is ranked No. 8 in the world. Netherlands holds the top spot.
