A Muscatine man has been accused of driving under the influence for the third time.

Ponce Villatevo, 26, was charged on Feb. 1 with third-offense OWI.

According to a Coralville police complaint, officers were dispatched after receiving a report of a male driver who had struck a street sign. When they arrived, Villatevo was standing next to the vehicle with bloodshot eyes and mumbled speech, and he smelled strongly of ingested alcohol.

Villatevo admitted to drinking, and an eyewitness identified Villatevo as the driver of the vehicle. He refused field sobriety tests, the complaint said.

Third offense OWI is a Class-D felony
