Man charged with domestic-abuse assault

A Cedar Rapids man has been accused of holding a woman down on with his hands.

Douglas Smith, 48, was charged Nov. 27 with third-offense domestic-abuse assault.

According to a Coralville police complaint, officers were called for a domestic disturbance. Prior to their arrival, Smith fled the scene.

Investigation resulted in the accuser saying Smith had pushed her onto the bed and held her around the neck.

The victim has bruising and pain from the incident.

Smith has previous convictions for domestic abuse.

Domestic-abuse assault is a Class-D felony.
