Acclaimed pop and jazz singer/songwriter Rickie Lee Jones has been in the critics’ spotlight for more than three decades.

The performer, who is on tour, will play at the Englert Theater, 221 E. Washington St., at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the event are still available for $35.

Englert Executive Director Andre Perr, described Jones’s ability to popularize the pop-jazz fusion in a way that isn’t often implemented.

“She initially blew up in the late-70s as a pop musician and had elements of the jazz world,” Perry said. “She’s spent a lot of time infusing her pop ability from anything from jazz to folk to put her voice and vision across.”

Jones has won the 1978 Grammy for best new artist, and in 1999, she was listed No. 30 on the VH1 list of 100 greatest women in rock. She has recorded in rock, R&B, blues, soul, and of course pop and jazz, which have been her forte.

Preceding the event, DeLuxe Cakes and Pastries will celebrate its “10 Years of Butter” by serving free pie and champagne from 7 to 8 p.m. Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Mayor’s Youth Empowerment Program of Iowa City. This event is free and open to the general public.
