Following the resignation of former Sen. Kent Sorenson, R-Milo, Gov. Terry Branstad has announced the date of a special election to fill the vacant seat.

Sorenson resigned on Oct. 2 after a report was released with accusations he received money from the campaign of former GOP presidential-nomination candidate Michele Bachmann.

The special election will be held Nov. 19. The 13th District includes Madison and Warren Counties.
