Editorial: End the hostage-taking

The House and Senate adjourned Tuesday evening without reaching an agreement to fund and reopen the federal government. The Republican-controlled House refused to pass a budget resolution unless it delays the implementation of Obamacare; the Senate Democrats refused to gut the president's signature achievement in exchange for six weeks of government funding.

Sunday evening marked the end of AMC's "Breaking Bad," which was considered through most of its five seasons to be a member of the TV drama Pantheon. It also marked the end of Walter White who was, despite his many detractors, one of the easiest antiheroes to root for and even love in recent memory.

While English or history majors probably won't fiddle with programming during their time at the university, they will, for all of their classes, use some sort of computer-related technology. Whether we're taking notes in lecture or conducting research, we've all become dependent on the use of multimedia technologies to improve and complete our educations.
