Despite recent above-normal temperatures, the chance for area residents to enjoy some of Iowa City’s newest outdoor recreational offerings is coming to a close for the season.

Iowa City splash pads, located at Wetherby Park and Fairmeadows Park, will shut down until next summer on Friday, a city news release said.

Users of the outdoor water-spray features saw extended periods this season, particularly in relation to end-of-summer heat after Labor Day.

Through Thursday, the free-to-the-public splash pads, which opened in May and June respectively, will continue to operate normal hours, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
