An Iowa City man has been accused of possessing and intending to sell marijuana.

Marvin Jones, 32, was charged Sunday with a controlled-substance violation.

A Johnson County sheriff’s complaint said officials stopped the defendant’s vehicle at the intersection of Bancroft and Cosby after a K-9 had alerted them.

Upon stopping him, the officers completed a search of the vehicle. While the search was taking place, officers reportedly found a large amount of cash on the defendant and two cell phones. One of the cell phones had messages concerning the selling of marijuana.

On the sidewalk area just before the stop, the K-9 allegedly located a plastic bag with eight individual packages of marijuana.

The defendant has previous possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver charges that occurred on Sept. 18, 2008, and Oct. 7, 2008.

He also has possession of a controlled substance charges on May 12, 2009, Feb. 8, 2008, March 25, 2008, Feb. 8, 2005, and June 20, 2001.

Controlled-substance violation is a Class-D felony.
