Editorial: Fix the Medicare funding disparity

The Institute of Medicine released a new report last week on the geographic variation in health-care spending. Over the last three decades, researchers have documented significant disparities in how Medicare pays doctors and hospitals across various regions. Iowa's health care has been severely affected by the Medicare inequity.

I have, for a number of reasons, been thinking a lot of late - too much, even - about Galesburg, Ill. Last week, President Obama chose Galesburg - presumably for its relatively rural charm and its sentimental value - as the backdrop for a major economic policy speech.


Sonn: The Internet never forgets

When I was an ignorant little freshman, I learned an important lesson about the effect a person's actions can have in the realm of social media. One of my friends had passed away, and another friend asked me on Facebook how he had died. Like an idiot, I posted a comment implying that his death may have been caused or influenced by drugs.
