Editorial: Invest in quality school lunches

A recent survey from the University of Iowa Public Policy Center and College of Public Health found that Iowa's parents have mixed feelings about their children's school lunches and the government's new nutritional guidelines. The government should make a larger investment in school lunches to ensure that they are not only nutritious but are also reasonably satisfying.

Overton: Rural Iowa getting passed over

With the recent news, you'd almost think Iowa is experiencing an economic boom. Facebook recently announced that it would open a new data center in Altoona. Google plans to expand its offices in Council Bluffs. MidAmerican Energy also decided to invest $1.9 billion in Iowa's wind-energy capacity. But there's one problem with all the recent development and great new things in Iowa: They're almost entirely in major cities.

Ponnada: The show must go on

The drama club at Ottumwa High School raised some eyebrows when the members decided they wanted to stage The Laramie Project, a play by Moises Kaufman about the real-life challenges faced by the town of Laramie, Wy., after a student from the University of Wyoming was beaten to death because he was gay.
