Iowa’s current top two political heads may appear once again on 2014 election ballots.

In a Monday press release, Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds announced they have begun laying the groundwork for a potential 2014 re-election run.

“Though a final decision and formal announcement won’t come until next year, we must be ready to hit the ground running,” Branstad wrote in an email to supporters.

The pair, who snagged the 2010 general election against Democrat opponent Chet Culver, have been a part of the state political arena for more than 30 years.

Branstad first won the gubernatorial seat in Iowa in 1982 against Democrat Roxanne Conlin.

Election wins continued for Branstad in 1986, 1990, and 1994.
