Editorial: Evaluating progress downtown

Last Thursday, the 480-member Iowa City Downtown District gathered to celebrate their success at unifying and improving downtown Iowa City. However, there are still major problems that need to be tackled before we toast to the District's achievements, and the city seems to have misidentified those problems.


Tilly: Saying goodbye to Paula Deen

Paula Deen learned this week that no matter how old or southern you are, you can't get away with pining for the golden age of slavery. What Paula said was awful, of course. But long after the memory of her racism fades, her negative contribution to society will remain.


Sonn: Paying Tracy McGrady

As Game 7 of the NBA Finals ended, and as members of both the Spurs and the Heat did the usual showing of sportsmanship on the court, the camera briefly showed Tracy McGrady exchanging daps with a member of the Heat. Seeing T-Mac on the floor long after he had outlived his usefulness to an NBA team got me thinking about a persistent question in sports: are athletes overpaid?
