A West Liberty man has been charged with driving under the influence after officers stopped him for having a broken taillight on his vehicle.

Roberto Flores, 21, was charged Tuesday with a first-offense OWI.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, officers stopped his tan Buick LeSabre at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Myrtle Avenue.

After a K9 alerted officers about the vehicle, officers asked him to step out of the vehicle.

According to the complaint, Flores had bloodshot, watery eyes and swayed a little while standing.

During testing, he showed impairment, the complaint said.

He refused to submit to preliminary breath testing and also admitted to recently smoking marijuana. Upon being placed under arrest, Flores performed on the DataMaster with a blood-alcohol level of 0.066.

First-offense OWI is a serious misdemeanor.
