An Iowa man has been accused of driving while intoxicated.

Douglas Carder, 56, was charged Sunday with third-offense OWI.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, police reportedly observed Carder’s black 1996 Ford Mustang twice drifting into the oncoming lane of Highway 6.

Police activated their lights to conduct a traffic stop when Carder drifted over into the lane again, the complaint said. Carder continued around two curves before pulling over.

Carder told officials that he did not stop “right away” because he was looking for a legal parking place so he would not get towed.

According to the complaint, officials said Carder allegedly had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and smelled slightly of ingested alcohol. Carder admitted to drinking, and he possessed vodka.

Third-offense OWI is a Class-D felony.
