The Iowa City police recently hired a new officer.

Travis Graves, 26, was sworn in during a small ceremony on Thursday afternoon.

Graves, from Cedar Rapids, attended Kirkwood Community College and completed an associate’s degree in parks and natural resources. He also attended Iowa State University and completed a degree in animal ecology.

Graves served as a youth counselor at Four Oaks in Cedar Rapids. He also worked for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources as a seasonal patrol officer beginning in May 2010.

The Iowa City position became available because of personnel turnover in the department.
