Gov. Terry Branstad said he received a warm reception during his 45-minute visit with the new president of China, but at this time did not have any trade deals to announce during his “extremely productive” trip.

“It is no secret that this sister-state relationship has been very beneficial to the people of Iowa, and we look forward to more success in the future with this unique partnership,” he said during call with Iowa journalists.

According to an itinerary provided by the Iowa Economic Development Agency, which planned the trip, Branstad’s group visited Beijing, Tianjin, Baoding City, and Shijiazhuang during his four-day trip.

Branstad was the first governor from the United States to meet China’s new President Xi Jinping on Monday.
