A Des Moines man was accused of attempting to exit a parking ramp after an accident.

Jacob Putney, 19, was charged April 5 with OWI, driving with a denied/revoked license, and possession of controlled substance.

Iowa City police officials responded to the Capitol Street parking ramp after receiving a report of an accident. Putney attempted to exit the marking ramp using the entrance and the vehicle hit and broke the wooden stop arm.

Putney was driving while the registered owner of the vehicle was the front-seat passenger. The owner of the vehicle gave officers consent to search the vehicle.

Officials reportedly located a glass pipe with burnt marijuana residue on the floor. A clear, plastic sandwich bag was also located under the carpeting in the trunk near the spare tire. It allegedly contained approximately 1.2 ounces of marijuana.

OWI is an aggravated misdemeanor. Driving with a denied/revoked license is a serious misdemeanor. Possession of a controlled substance is a serious misdemeanor.
