The Iowa women’s tennis team traveled to California over the break, taking on Dartmouth, Long Beach State, and Cal State-Northridge. The team earned victories against Dartmouth and Cal State Northridge but came up short against Long Beach.

The Hawkeyes opened the trip against the Big Green of Dartmouth, winning 5-2. All 5 points came from singles victories, and the Hawks suffered a rare loss in doubles.

Next up for the Black and Gold were the 49ers of Long Beach. The match was close, but eventually, the Hawkeyes lost, 4-3. The Hawkeyes earned points in a win doubles and two singles victories from junior Ruth Seaborne and freshman Caitlin Hindmarsh.

The team wrapped up the trip with an impressive victory over Cal State-Northridge, winning the match, 5-2. One of the more impressive matches came from sophomore Shelby Talcott, who earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 singles position.

Another one of the more impressive notes was the play of Seaborne. She won both of her singles match while defending her No. 75 national singles ranking. Seaborne and doubles partner sophomore Morven McCulloch also won both of their doubles matches defending their No. 45 national doubles ranking.

The Hawkeyes return to conference play when they travel to University Park to take on No. 37 Penn State on March 29. The match will begin at 6 p.m. (EDT) at the Sarni Tennis Center.
