A local man was arrested after assaulting a police officer and then threatening to harm their family.
Ralph Washington, 53, was accused Feb. 16 with interference with official acts, assault on a peace officer, harassment, and third-offense OWI.

Iowa City police officials responded to report of an intoxicated male subject that just drove away from the Blackstone area. Officials located the vehicle in a driveway and saw Washington exit the car. Police officials attempted to interview Washington for a possible OWI when he entered his house after being asked to stop. Washington proceeded to push the police official, and the other officer tackled the defendant. While on the ground, Washington started threatening the police official, saying that he was going to kill his family and he would not forget the police officer for ruining his life.

Interference with official acts is an aggravated misdemeanor. Assault on a peace officer is a serious misdemeanor. Harassment is an aggravated misdemeanor. Third-offence OWI is a class-D felony.
