The Iowa volleyball team announced that it would add two prep players to its 2013 recruiting class: Corinne Gajcak, a 5-9 libero from Lisle, Ill., and Alyssa Klostermann, a 5-10 setter from Dubuque.

“It will be fun to have both Corrine and Alyssa in our gym raising the level of play because of their athleticism and competitive spirit,” head coach Sharon Dingman said in a release. “Both of them have the leadership quality a coach wants to see in a setter and potential libero.”

Gajcak comes to Iowa with a very decorated prep career. She was named All-DuPage Valley Conference as a senior and was a four-year starter for Naperville North High. Gajcak comes to Iowa as a two-time captain and a Chicago Sun Times top-50 players list for the Chicagoland area.

The soon-to-be-Hawkeye also led her team to two conference titles and two third-place finishes in the Illinois state tournament.

“I am really looking forward to playing great competition in the Big Ten,” Gajcak said in a release. “I visited several schools but I had this feeling immediately at Iowa that it was the right fit for me. It is the overall Iowa Hawkeye atmosphere that is so amazing and spirited.”

Klostermann hails from Wahlert Catholic High in Dubuque, where she was named first team All-Mississippi Valley Conference. She was also a representative in the 2012 Iowa High School All-Star game. As a junior, she was named all-conference and was a special mention all-state after leading her team to the state semifinals.

The Dubuque native doesn’t just shine on the court — she performs well in the classroom. She is a three-time recipient of the Eagle Award of Excellence, given to students at her high school who carry a 4.0 GPA.

“Alyssa is as athletic as any setter in the conference,” Dingman said. “I see her making tremendous strides in her first year as a college setter.”
