Former Iowa wrestler Montell Marion was charged with domestic-abuse assault with intent to cause injury on Tuesday.

According to law-enforcement reports, Coralville police responded to a complaint at about 1:30 p.m.

Marion allegedly tried to slam a female victim into a fireplace, leaving her with a headache. Bond has not been set.

Marion was repeatedly in trouble during his tenure as a Hawkeye wrestler, which eventually lead to the grappler pleading guilty to driving while barred in March. During his time in Iowa City, Marion was charged with public intoxication, vandalism, OWI, driving while barred, and several other driving citations.

Marion was banned from all team activities in May 2010 after a string of run-ins with the law, including an OWI. The two-time NCAA runner up and three-time All American was reinstated in January 2011 and earned back his starting role at 141 pounds.

The former wrestler remained listed as a short-term professional monthly in the UI directory.
