Iowa City officials have adopted a Buy Local policy for increasing the amount of business conducted with local companies. Under the policy, businesses in Johnson County that submit a cost-competetive bid are given first consideration for contract awards. Local vendors will also be able to match or beat low bids submitted by competing non-local vendors.

City councilors adopted the policy at the council's April 17 meeting.
