A man was charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance.

According to an Iowa City police complaint, Dominque Conway, 25, address unknown, was charged April 21 with possession of a controlled substance and second-degree theft.

Police officials allegedly located a reported stolen vehicle, and while officers were watching the vehicle, Conway walked up to the driver's door, entered the vehicle, and began backing it out of a parking space. After police officials met up with the vehicle, Conway admitted to stealing the car earlier in the morning, the complaint said.

Conway said he allegedly drove the vehicle throughout the day including a trip to Cedar Rapids and back to Iowa City. The vehicle is valued at approximately $6,000.

Second-degree theft is considered a Class-D felony.
