The Iowa City City Council will hold a public hearing April 17 authorizing the filing of an application with the Iowa Department of Transportation for financial assistance.

According to the proposal, the Metropolitan Planning Organization of Johnson County will file an application with the department for state transit assistance and federal transit administration funding for fiscal 2013.

Iowa City Transit will receive roughly $397,000 in state transit assistance and roughly $1.4 million in federal transit administration funding.

City councilors will hold the public hearing and vote on a resolution approving the application.
