If you build it, do it locally

The location of the 1989 classic film Field of Dreams in Dyersville, Iowa is looking to get an extreme makeover. But many in the small town are worried that this project will do more harm than good, that expectations are too high, and that the state investment can't be repaid. As this bill goes to receive the final signature, Gov. Branstad should strike it down and defer to Dyersville's residents.

Not a lot of people are manipulating statistics to paint cigarette-smoking in a positive light, and I'm sure there must be a good professional, journalistic reason for this to be the case, but I'm going to do it, anyway.

Guillen's constitutional crime

"I love Fidel Castro ... I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that motherf*****r is still here," Guillen said. Despite the obvious lack of sensitivity on behalf of the Marlins manager, all of the chatter about firing a man who merely (though stupidly) spoke his mind seems a little ironic.
