The Iowa women's golf team finished tied for second at the Claud Jacobs Challenge in Victoria, Texas, this weekend. Iowa shot a 54-hole score of 934 (70 over).

Kristi Cardwell led the Hawkeyes with a seventh-place, 11-over 227 performance. Teammate Gigi DiGrazia — who carded five birdies in the first round — finished tied for 12th with a 231.

Iowa began play on Sunday. The five Hawkeye golfers shot a first-round 309 and finished the day with a 312 in the second round. The Black and Gold Iowa trailed Lamar and host Texas State after the first day; Texas State returned individual defending champion Krista Puisuite, who finished tied for first overall with Louisiana-Monroe's Ali Lucas at 224.

Play continued Monday, when the team's 313 moved it ahead of Sam Houston State, which placed fourth.

Senior Lauren English and freshman Chelsea Harris tied for 31st place with 241s. Freshman Shelby Phillips' 5-over 77 moved her up 15 spots in the final round; the Gilbert, Ariz., native finished tied for 33rd with a 242.

"There were a lot of positives. There was a little bit of rust, [but we] had a couple people post pretty consistent rounds," head coach Megan Menzel said.

The Hawkeyes will continue competition on Feb. 26 when they travel to Peoria, Ariz., for the Westbrook Spring Invitational at the Westbrook Village Golf Club.
