Iowa sophomore Steven Ihm was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Week on Wednesday for his play on Oct. 23-25 at the U.S. Collegiate Championship in Alpharetta, Ga.

Ihm tied for eighth place with a score of 3-under 213 at the three-day event. The Peosta, Iowa, native fired rounds of 68, 75, and 70 on the par-72 Golf Club of Georgia's Lakeside course. Ihm's first-round score of 68 is the lowest round shot by any Iowa golfer this fall, and it was only the third round under 70 this season.

"It's just an honor [to win the award] out of all of the Big Ten golfers," Ihm said. "I played pretty solid this week and played solid in the last tournament, so it's pretty cool."

A transfer from Indian Hills Community College, Ihm has played exceptionally well recently. He placed second at Iowa's previous tournament — the Rod Myers Invitational — on Oct. 1-2 at Duke, posting the same score of 3-under 213.

Four of Ihm's last six rounds have been played under par, and his two over-par rounds have only amounted to a score of 4-over.

Ihm and the Hawkeyes will play in their final tournament of the fall season on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate in Dallas.
