Coralville man charged with machete burglary

A Coralville man was charged with felony burglary in the first degree Wednesday morning after he allegedly broke into his girlfriend's apartment armed with a machete.

According to a complaint by Coralville police, Israel Linares, 39, went to the apartment around 1:15 a.m. with the intention of confronting his girlfriend's ex-husband.

When the ex-husband opened the door, Linares allegedly swung the machete at him. The ex-husband then attempted to close the door, but Linares stepped across the threshold and tried to reach around the door with the machete, according to the complaint.

First-degree burglary is a Class-B Felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.
