An Illinois woman was charged Sunday with domestic-abuse assault with intent after Iowa City police received a report by a man who said he had been stabbed.

According to a complaint by Iowa City police, Patricia Wilkins, 41, Bellwood, Ill., was charged after an altercation at a Davis Street residence.

The complaint said the male victim told police that Wilkins stabbed him because she was frustrated he was speaking with a woman outside their home. She then allegedly began to beat him up and stabbed him in the forehead, where he had a superficial wound.

The complaint also said Wilkins told police she was sleeping on the couch when her husband jumped on top of her, attempting to remove her pants. She said that he wouldn't stop.

Wilkins' 13-year-old son was in the room as the incident occurred, according to the complaint. He said Wilkins struck her husband, scratching him with her fingernail, and then went to the kitchen to get a knife, which she used to stab the him.

Domestic-abuse assault with intent is an aggravated misdemeanor punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine of $6,250.
