Prohibition is still ineffective

The rise in synthetic cannabis products on the market is in direct response to marijuana prohibition. These synthetic alternatives can be produced at a rate faster than the legal system can ban them.

There have even been cases of “Backyard Cooks” in New Zealand who purchase the key chemicals from overseas and create their own synthetic cannabis products.

Criminalizing synthetic cannabis products is not the answer to solving this problem. A state-regulated market for marijuana would seriously undermine the market for more dangerous synthetic alternatives. It’s time to bring the enormous, unregulated marijuana market into the light of day and under the rule of law once and for all.
