Iowa City police arrested a local man after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend and her dog.

Michael Tiea, 20, was charged April 27 with domestic-abuse assault with intent, false imprisonment, interference with official acts, and obstruction of emergency communication.

According to complaints, Tiea and the alleged victim were fighting about the status of their relationship when he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend and her dog with a knife if they tried to leave their apartment.

The reported victim told police Tiea took the phone from her when she tried to call 911, and officers responded after receiving an open phone call, hearing the woman tell someone to stop.

The woman also told police Tiea pushed her into the wall.

Tiea and woman have been in a relationship for four years and are living together, according to complaints.
