The Iowa men's track and field team won five events this past weekend, when the team sent athletes to the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn University and the Jim Duncan Invitational at Drake.

In Auburn, Ala., the Hawkeyes took first place in the 4x400 meter relay. Steven Willey, D'Juan Richardson, Ethan Holmes, and Erik Sowinski combined for a time of 3:08.10, the fastest 4x4 time for an Iowa group this year by a little more than two seconds. The Hawkeyes' time at the War Eagle was better than that of Mississippi, South Carolina, and Penn State, all schools who entered the meet with top-13 times in Division-I.

Senior Adam Hairston won the 800 meters in 1:50.11. Before redshirting for the 2010 outdoor season, the last time the Cedar Rapids native won an 800-meter race was the Illinois/Iowa meet in January 2010.

Three individuals returned from Des Moines with first-place finishes. Sophomore Jeff Thode won the 800 meters at the Jim Duncan Invitational in 1:52.53. Fellow sophomore Keaton Rickels won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.80. Freshman Tevin Mincy claimed the third first-place finish, winning the 100-meter dash in 10.66 seconds.

The Hawkeyes will next host the 12th-annual Musco Twilight at the Cretzmeyer Track on Saturday.
