UI student charged with assault, criminal mischief

Iowa City police arrested a University of Iowa student after he allegedly damaged numerous vehicles and assaulted a man.

Jack Joyce, 21, 433 S. Johnson St. Apt. 4, was charged April 9 with second-degree criminal mischief and assault causing serious injury.

According to police reports, Joyce was asked to leave a party at 606 S. Johnson St.; he then allegedly put the man escorting him in a headlock and threw him to the floor, leaving a large bruise to his shoulder.

The report said Joyce fled the scene before police arrived but later returned and allegedly kicked mirrors off four cars and damaged a door to the home, totaling $1,850.

The report said a witness saw Joyce fleeing after damaging the vehicles.
