Iowa City police arrested a woman after she allegedly stole items from the home of someone she was taking care of.

Theresa Oberkiser, 29, address unknown, was charged Feb. 25 with third-degree theft.

Police reports said Oberkiser was employed as a caretaker for the alleged victim before the alleged victim terminated her and evicted her.

When Oberkiser left, officials said she allegedly took numerous items from the home and garage of her former employer, including a DVD recorder, area rug, floor lamp, and numerous DVDs — totaling $750.

Police said the alleged victim confronted Oberkiser, who originally agreed to return them but never followed through.

Third-degree theft is an aggravated misdemeanor, punishable by up to two years in prison and a maximum fine of $6,250.
