Daphne Willis will perform at 7 p.m. April 17 at the Blue Moose, 211 Iowa Ave., along with Megan McCormick and Dave Tamkin. Admission is $15.

The Chicago native’s visit to Iowa City comes just two days before the release of her sophomore album, Because I Can. Willis relocated to Nashville to make the record, which builds on the soulful pop sound she established on her Vanguard Records début, What to Say.

Vanguard President Kevin Welk signed the songwriter after hearing her self-released EP on an airplane’s in-flight programming. From there, Willis has gone on to have success with her versatile sound that ranges from honest and vulnerable (“I Will Be Waiting”) to confident and determined (“Shake It Off”).

Not a single emotion is lost in the singer’s live show. With the help of her backing band, Willis puts together a performance that captures all of the energy found on her albums.
