Lawmaker pulls amendment for children of officers

Rep. Kirsten Running-Marquardt, D-Cedar Rapids, proposed, then withdrew a budget amendment that would have given provided free tuition to children of police officers or firefighters slain in the line of duty or suffering permanent disabilities.

It was part of a larger budget bill, passed Tuesday, that included cuts to education.
