A bill that would define a legal union as the marriage between one man and one woman has died in the Legislature.

House Joint Resolution 6 would have proposed an amendment to the Iowa Constitution specifying marriage between one man and one woman as the only legal union recognized by the state.

If the joint resolution had been adopted, it would have been referred to the next General Assembly for adoption a second time before being submitted to the public for a vote.

However, a push to impeach four members of the Iowa Supreme Court is still ongoing, according to the Des Moines Register. A small number of Republicans in the House are promoting the idea, though they have not moved to impeach any members yet.
