“Stand your ground” bill dead, constitutional carry still possible

The “stand your ground bill” has died in the legislative funnel.

The bill, House File 576, would have allowed gun owners to use deadly force to protect themselves or another person as long as they are allowed to be in an area lawfully. The proposed legislation would also protect that person from civil suits, the file said.

However, Rep. Dave Jacoby, D-Coralville, said, the bill could be brought up in the Ways and Means Committee at the majority leaders’ discretion.
